BuiltbyData is built on cybernetic principles of feedback, learning and emergence using IoT methods, hard- and software.
The building construction process is time-consuming; each function, from design to production and construction, follows a linear workflow with a large portion of tasks being carried out manually.

The initial design phase is usually digital and agile, however even the design process in the architecture and construction sector is significantly slower than in other industries. Just think of the automotive or manufacturing sectors, where automation and digitisation play key roles throughout the entire production process.

In the various phases of the looped process we are applying content and task-specific methods using the most appropriate instruments. Instruments, methods and tools combine the analog and digital world in design, fabrication, construction, monitoring, evaluating and feeding back into the design process for the next iteration, a next project. In the first stage we analyze the problem, depict the situation, internal and external parameters and start asking questions. Two relevant methods are the acts of learning and adapting – only then innovation can flourish and result in a successful project. A further method is the interweaving of preset linear processes with novel dynamic algorithmic processes and surprisingly architectural outcomes. During the design process we combine digital geo-data analysis with parametric design and algorithmic optimization tools, the fabrication process is fully digitized. The final product will be evaluated through statistical big data analysis of performance by an integration of human feedback and sensoric data collection. A ML/AI component is planned.
Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. It’s intended for anyone making interactive projects.
A small and affordable computer that you can use to learn programming.
